Lolcatz

Does anyone else think that lolcatz has been overrun by the unfunny people of the internet; 50 year old women who make t-shirts about how arthritis sucks, and make awful jokes about everything... I might just be over thinking this a bit, but let me know what you think.

M.J and B.M

Billy Mays and Michael Jackson died in the past couple weeks. Supposed Michael is haunting the Neverland Ranch. No joke. There's a couple of videos on the youtube about it. strange the even in death, little boys aren't safe.

On a more serious note, bummer for Billy Mays. One less badass in the world.

Been awhile.

Have not had much to update about. I recently visited Atlanta, where my sister lives. Had lots of good food, drinks, and a great weekend in general.

Writing, writing, writing music. Playing, practicing. Excited for school to start up again.

http://www.wimp.com/webcamvideo/ cool video.

Be sure to check out free loops and samples, Ryan works real hard on that stuff.
Take it easy.

The Joys of being an Assistant Manager of a Drive-in movie theater

Richard M. Hollingshead

The man who pretty much came up with the idea of the drive-in movie theater. Great concept... bring your friends, girlfriend, or date to a movie, in your car and watch one or two movies for fairly cheap, while also enjoying the overpriced menu of the concession stand. Careful though, because if the couple making out gets caught by the lot guy, you got some splainin' to do!

But seriously... after all the glamour and grease of the drive-in gets washed away, people don't really think about them. For a lot of folks, they're a novelty item in today's time. Not for me. I'm an assistant manager of one.
The Manager and I cleaned the office, painted the poles that used to have speakers (but now just act as "places to tie the horse"), and hung some posters up to make the back room seem not so hideous.
Fun day.

Go to your local drive in movie theater.

Performance

For my old guitar teacher, Jon, I played a 30 hour famine. Nice sound, recorded some. Had some problems but mainly just miss communication.

Summer schedule

Well, it's my first day of my summer break, and so far, so good.
In the mail, my sister sent me a Kodak EasyShare Z730 (a camera)! Great gift. Great sister.

You can find anything on youtube. Whether it's some dude catching himself on fire, or a 12 year old boy thinking he's a sexy brittney spears backup dancer. My dad was talking about old kids shows from the 60's and 70's, and we looked up some on youtube. Turns out that when I was in 2nd/3rd grade I'd watch the same kids show, but they'd air before school for me. The Banana Split's Adventure Hour, check the clip Here.

Sitting Outside

With my Reason project done, and my finals started, I feel like the year finally is almost over. It's a great relief to know that I'm going to have time to set up everything for this and get the patches, samples and loops out for you all.

There is nothing better than to sit outside and take in the rays after being cooped up for a whole winter. Take care.

Work day.

I got a lot of work done today.

Two exams complete. Lots of practicing done already, and my Reason project needs about another hour of work and it's done. It's really industrial driven. The beat almost seems to smack you in the face.

Until the upcoming Thursday, I'm going to be busy. My guitar jury is on Wednesday, and Finals are all next week. For the weekend schedule, I have even more practicing to do, I have to finish a take home exam for one of my classes, finish my Reason project, practice, study, practice, study, , and maybe try to relax.

I have been looking into Zen mediation, and the whole subject of just trying to relax yourself as much as possible. I have stumbled on some really cool mediation tips and I've even tried some yoga stuff. It's actually relaxing me a bit. The only thing that bothers me about the whole zen culture is the yuppy people who say, "yeah i'm zen and i'm an asshole. So i'm really an asshole."

Well, take care this weekend. Happy dreaming.

Website that sounds pretty awesome.

I've been looking for odd jobs to make some extra money with the economy the way it is. I actually found a good job site, Hound.com. This is an awesome website I found where people work from home which you can sign up to be a asker or answerer of questions/tasks. Wiki has a pretty good article about them if you want to read more because if you need money, it's considered the best job search engine. It's a lot like monster or careerbuilder.com but this one is acutally the biggest one on the internet. Also, in PC magazine, Hound was listed in the top 20 Job Sites and on Applicant.com , it was the top 30 job sites. I think everyone who's looking for a job that they can do at home, they should check out Hound.com.

My roommate Jordan and Walmart girls

I'm sitting outside, and smelling the flowers for the first time, and it's great to just relax and take a break from everything I've been working on and worrying about. I found a really cool blog where this guy puts up a new reason patch every day. It's on my blog list to the right.

My roommate, Jordan, plays World of Warcraft. Remember that for later.

We went to wal-mart earlier this week, and a fairly pretty girl who worked at walmart hit on him. We were buying magic cards for a guy's birthday. She commented on the cards and thought jordan was buying them for himself.
She laughed a bit and said "it's okay. I have a nerdy hobby, too".... World of Warcraft. Jordan is a walmart worker stud, and also a month or so ago another walmart girl used the oldest line in the book on him: Don't I know you from somewhere?

For my Music Literature class, we have required listening examples. Last semster was classical music(up to around the 40's) and now this semester I have latin/jazz/rock/country/musical theater listening, and I've really noticed that this semester has leaked into my playing a bit. I have some It's interesting how your sound changes when you're forced to listen to something. Every now and again I'll have a lick that sounds really latin influenced, and it almost catches me off gaurd because I don't really consider my listening assignments as music I really consider "What I listen to".

One of my friends created a blog today, Blairthemusic.blogspot.com. It's a bit empty right now, but everyone should check it out. He's an interesting guy.

Ending the year with Reason

Right now, I'm working a lot with Propellerhead's Reason. It's a great sample and sequence program. It's easy to use and the possibilities for your the music are nearly endless.

Finals week is coming up and I'm using Reason in one of my music tech classes. We have to compose a 2 and half minute song for our final project. While having everything that I normally have oopen on my desktop, and then with Reason, makes my desktop look like a disaster.

It's great to use the combinator feature Reason has to make any sound I want. After about 20 minutes of work with it, I can get some great leads, , or literally anything I can think of. For those who of you who don't know what it is, the name pretty much explains it. It take different virtual instruments, or effects you have selected, and then combines them together to make sweet sounds. I'm not quite sure how to put patches on this thing or I would put up a couple I made.

Everyone should check out my friend's site, free-loops-and-samples.com. He's got some sweet groove.

I work at Capital's fitness center as "the guy who checks your I.D." and I used to sit in a “box office” out in the lobby but now, because something got stolen about a month ago, we've had to sit at a desk in the middle of the walkway. Also, the basketballs are stored inside the office, so whenever someone wants a ball, I have to walk back into the office and get it. Normally the door's opened, but not today, when every five person needs a basketball, and I have to climb over the desk to get to them.
“Well why don’t you get your supervisor?” I have a different supervisor today I can’t find him anyway.

Once I google how to put downloads on the blog I’ll post some of my own patches for you to use. Until then, have a great week.

networking

I blogged quite a bit this year through facebook. I'll be putting up some of my favorite posts every now and again from that.

My friends and I are studying digital electronic music for a class. Me on the left, Jeff in the center, and the crazy looking guy in the back is Kyle.

I got twitter for the hell of it... mgrex8 is my username. everyone who has twitter should check out my account. i'll return the favor. I'm trying to build up a good networking system to get a hold of me online.

FACEBOOK POST:
I still can't believe people still give me shit for asking for ids. People do the "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!", throwing up, making a stupid scene and they think i'll be like just go on ahead.

According to Newser's front page the family of Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali really is stuck in the slums of Mumbai, and her father may be trying to trade her in for his ticket out, the News of the World reports. The tab contacted Rafiq Qureshi, posing as a rich Dubai couple interested in adopting Rubina, after hearing that Qureshi had offered to sell her.

Stephen Hawkings is supposedly very sick. Crazy that one of the smartest guys has the weakest body.

This is the blog of a budding guitarist, musician, audio engineer, and writer.

...Nice to meet you...

A little bit about me:
I live in Columbus during the school year and I've just completed my first year of college at Capital University, and I'm majoring in Music Technology, and playing guitar for my major as well. I love music and I'm an avid movie watcher. I'm a music gear junkie and enjoy going on forums and blogging, so I am to get into this. I've worked at a movie theater, drive-in, an aluminum foundry and a college workout center, and I've learned something from all them. I play Halo and Spore.... and a little World of Warcraft when I have money. I've always wanted a good bonsai tree. I'm a fan of independent music and movies, I feel like independent media is more real and doesn't have a gloss of "I am just in this for money quick". They are art forms. Basically, I'm trying to keep my chin up during the time I spend here. Karma's your friend, but it's also a bitch.

So summer is coming along, and I have a lot of work to do before I make it there. Once the summer comes along, I'll be blogging even more.

Took my music theory final test today, and I feel it went well. Worked, went to Wal-mart, and studied for my digital music listening exam. I looked at blogs and had classes. Uneventful. My Music lit test was moved to Thursday, which took a nice weight off my chest.

Enjoy the blog and Subscribe to keep up to date with what I got to say.
